Corona / COVID-19

…and your travel plans in Kenya & Tanzania

Update 2023

Dear Jambo Kilimanjaro clients!

The situation is changing daily and there is constantly new information regarding the spread and related restrictions. Due to the very dynamic situation we recommend to check with the German Foreign Office or GOV.UK.

The German government has introduced differentiated travel and safety advisories per country. These will be based on the assessment of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI).

Entry into Kenya and Tanzania

Kenya

  • Fully vaccinated travellers no longer need a PCR test. De facto vaccination is compulsory for Kenya from the age of 18. Please note the following entry restrictions.
  • The visa for Kenya must be applied for in advance online as an e-visa.
  • A health form must be completed online.
  • Covid-19 vaccination certificate with QR code or digital EU certificate (from CovPass or Corona warning app or the respective home country) to take with you in addition to the (yellow) vaccination certificate and, if necessary, register on Global Heaven / Trusted Travel Initiative – the vaccination certificate with the charge numbers of the individual vaccinations, vaccination date, company etc. and the passport are needed to enter the data.
  • All persons 5 years of age and older without valid proof of vaccination (including persons 18 years of age and older with medically certified inoculation eligibility or recognised Covid 19 infection in the last 90 days) require a negative, certified PCR test, which must not be older than 72 hours at the time of departure. In addition, a rapid antigen test is carried out on arrival for these persons at a cost of 30 US dollars. If this test is positive, a PCR test follows for 50 US dollars and the obligation to self-isolate.
  • Test results should be uploaded to the Global Heaven / Trusted Travel Initiative website and a travel code generated: Instructions here via the Kenyan Ministry of Health at No. 99 Travel Guide Simplified.

Tanzania

  • Fully vaccinated travellers no longer need a PCR test. Those who are not vaccinated or not fully vaccinated must present a negative PCR test upon entry. Please note the current entry restrictions.
  • The visa for Tanzania is available on arrival or in advance as an e-visa (recommended).
  • A health form must be completed online (temporarily suspended for technical reasons).
