3 days Safari in Kenya
On this safari you spend 3 days on safari in Tsavo East National Park & the Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary. Game drives are not only possible in the wildlife sanctuary itself, but also in the adjacent Tsavo West National Park.
Go in search of the famous Tsavo lions, a population of lions where the male lions are almost completely missing their mane and the “red elephants”, powdered with Tsavo’s red earth, and stay at the safari lodge with waterhole, built on stilts and connected by boardwalks. Animal observation up close!
You can book this safari with us for as little as € 680 per person. For an individual offer just send us your request.
Notorious Tsavo
Founded in 1948, Tsavo Park is divided into Tsavo East and Tsavo West National Parks. With a total area of almost 22,000 km², it is the largest national park in Kenya and is located in the south-east of the country. The railway line runs directly through Tsavo Park and separates the eastern part, which is twice as large, from the western part.
This railway line is also the original setting and the story based on true events from the film “The Ghost and the Darkness“. We have chosen the most authentic camp for you…
The Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary is a private game reserve located at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro on the eastern edge of the southern Tsavo West National Park. Here you can still admire the up to 2200m high range of the Taita Hills covered with rain/mist forests while on safari. The landscape is characterised by savannah with bushes and rock formations.
Our proposal
Day 1: Diani Beach – Tsavo East
We pick you up from your hotel very early in the morning and drive along the Mombasa-Nairobi road. The landscape of Tsavo East is dominated by the red laterite soil with which the famous “red elephants of Tsavo” dust themselves. The park consists of grass and bush savannahs. Dry, flat plains are interspersed with acacia forests, rock formations and rivers. Some rivers, such as the Voi River and Mbololo River, dry up in times of drought. The Athi River and Galana River have water all year round. Tsavo East National Park is one of the largest game reserves in the world and is famous for its huge herds of red elephants, man-eating lions and many birds. There are also a variety of other animals such as buffalo, giraffe and zebra. We drive to Man Eaters Camp for lunch. After lunch you rest until 16h00. We go on a game drive in search of red elephants, giraffes, bufallo, lions, cheetahs, leopards, zebras and many bird species. By 18:30 / 19:00 you will be back at the latest for dinner at Man Eaters Camp, which is only about one kilometre away from the railway bridge, during the construction of which the “man eaters” from Tsavo are said to have killed about 140 construction workers. Don’t worry, that’s all in the past, you are absolutely safe here!
The camp consists of 30 luxury tents with en-suite bathrooms and private balconies overlooking the Tsavo River. From the camp you can watch the animals quench their thirst by the river. We once found fresh elephant tracks right in front of our terrace in the morning.
(Distance ca. 180 km, approx. 3,5h)
Day 2: Tsavo Ost – Taita Hills
After breakfast we drive to Taita Hills, where you will also arrive for lunch. Savora Saltlick Lodge is one of our favourites among the lodges around Tsavo National Park. It is situated in its own conservation area in the Taita Hills adjacent to Tsavo West National Park. The unusual design stands out from afar, as the entire lodge is on stilts and connected by wooden bridges, allowing you to watch the nearby waterhole from the entire hotel complex. Here we have been able to observe so many animals, especially elephants and zebras, even very close to the water ditch right next to the lodge. A unique experience! In the afternoon we go on another game drive in search of elephants, buffalos, zebras, giraffes, lions, cheetahs, leopards and many birds. Dinner and overnight at Sarova Saltlick Lodge.
(Distance ca. 90km, approx. 1 hour)
Day 3: Taita Hills – Diani Beach
Early morning game drive before breakfast – a very special experience, you might see lions hunting! After breakfast you will be able to observe more animals on the way back to your hotel in Diani Beach, which you will reach in the late afternoon. In between you will also stop for lunch.
(Distance ca. 230km, ca. 5 h).
